Maggie Grace is an American actor who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her most famous roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character from ABC's Lost series, and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. Originally from Worthington Ohio, she left high school and moved in Los Angeles with her mother after her parents divorce. They were struggling to make ends meet at the time she landed her first part in the acting world in the film Rachel's Room's lead character. In 2002, she was awarded a Young Artist Award in 2002 for her portrayal in Murder in Greenwich of 15 year old Martha Moxley as a murder victim, Grace went on to win. Grace appeared as Shannon Rutherford on the Lost television show in 2004. She was the main role for two seasons, and was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace decided to leave the series to concentrate on her film career. The actress had been on the show with Tom Welling opposite in The Fog earlier in the year 2005. She was as a character in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in 2007 as well as Taken (2008) opposite Liam Neeson. She reprised this role in Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is a modern interpretation that the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace performed the role of Shannon once more in the show's finale and in two additional episodes. Grace appeared on Californication's 6th season that aired from 2013 to 2014. She portrays Faith as a groupie, and also her muse to the stars that catches the eye of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. A member of the Gyllenhaal clan, she is the daughter of film makers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs and the older sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. As a teenager, she played small parts in films made by her father. She also she co-starred alongside her sister in Donnie Darko which is a popular cult movie. In 2002, she appeared as a character on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Also, she appeared on Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal received critical acclaim for her performances as the lead in the romantic erotic comedy drama Secretary (2002) and in the drama Sherrybaby (2006) each of which earned her an Golden Globe Award nomination. She gained wider recognition after playing Rachel Dawes, a superhero in The Dark Knight (2008), thanks to several successful commercials she appeared in in 2006. The film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part as Rachel Dawes in Crazy Heart, (2009). After that, she went on to appear in comedy films as well as dramas such Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) as well as Will Not Back Down (12). Her other roles included Secret Service agents in White House Down (2013, action thriller) as well as actors in Frank (2014 Drama The Kindergarten Teacher 2018) as well as her role as the kindergarten teacher. In 2021 Gyllenhaal has made her scriptwriting and directed debut in the psychological thriller The Lost Daughter for which she received The Lost Daughter the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated to win the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
